Description
This was a test to see how cloth draping compared with conforming clothing in actual scene I might do. I used a chapter cut from one of my books and rendered each scene twice. The first image is draped. The second is conforming. As far as time each scene took, there wasn't much difference. You can be the judge of while clothing looks better.
Remtani saw one of his brothers on the stairs and heard the squeak of his brother’s leg brace. He took the stairs two at a time to catch up. “Need some help?”
Bacna paused, swaying slightly as he tried to juggle both canes in one trembling hand while clutching the polished rail with the other. “My c-cane?” He rasped, the words thick and halting.
Remtani took the spare cane from him. Bacna hesitated before the next step, his face tightening, breath catching audibly through his teeth.
“Here.” Remtani slid into position, wrapping a steadying arm around Bacna’s narrow waist while his brother’s arm draped across his shoulders. It was always an awkward dance. Remtani had inherited their mother’s height, but Bacna’s premature birth and the cascade of health troubles that followed had stunted his growth, leaving him barely taller than Ann. Still, this wasn’t their first time navigating these stairs together. With practiced coordination, they made slow but steady progress.
They finally conquered the landing. Remtani’s brow furrowed as he studied his brother’s strained face. “Where are you heading?”
“Ann’s r-room.”
Remtani frowned. “Why?” Ann wasn’t due back for days yet.
“I’m w-watching the w-workers,” Bacna explained, the words coming out clipped, effortful.
“What workers?” None of the palace staff needed that kind of supervision.
“Th-The o-ones f-fixing the fireplace.”
“What’s wrong with it?”
“Ann f-froze it s-solid. There’s extensive w-water d-damage. They’ve had t-to replace b-both the hearth a-and the flooring around it.”
“So?”
“It’s it's a b-bigger j-job than th-the r-regular p-palace maintenance c-can handle,” Bacna continued, grimacing. “Mom w-wants it f-finished before Ann r-returns so she h-hired p-people from t-town. I have to w-watch them.”
“And that’s got you stuttering so badly I can barely understand you because…?”
Bacna winced again as he tried to lift his foot. Remtani sighed softly. “Hold this.” He handed his brother back the cane, then bent down and scooped him up with ease, carrying him up the remaining stairs to Ann’s floor. “You won’t make it up here before she gets back,” he said, cutting off any protest. “Why is your leg so bad today?”
“I f-fell on on the stairs yesterday,” Bacna admitted quietly. “The g-green bough isn’t helping m-much.”
Just a fun fact, the brothers in this are brothers to the girls in the gossiping sisters image i posted recently.

great set of fantasy works, friends are forever.
so true. thanks
A very nice little story. Well done.
thanks
Hmm, personally I feel like it depends on which scene which one worked better.
First one, I like the second better. Second one, I like the first better. Third one, I like the first better for the clothes, the second for the hair.
Quite interesting to see the comparison.
Nice story so far and nice fun fact that they are related to the sisters in the other image :)
Thanks. It was an interesting test. The whole crew is part of a series I wrote.
