Description
It was years ago when Alessa's partner died in a pointless skirmish over a barren piece of land that no-one wanted.
His body was buried by his fellows between three stones. A boulder put by his head, and the mound covered in flowers.
Alessa finally found out where this short and vicious fight had occurred, and made a pilgrimage so she could honour his passing. When she arrived, the empty landscape mocked her as she squelched up through the muck to the standing stones. No-one lived here. No-one wanted the land. Why fight for the pride of fools far away so they could draw a line on a map?
Poppies waved their blood red petals as a reminder of what had been lost, a silent and ephemeral memorial to her love. She wailed to the uncaring sky and sank to her knees sobbing and crying aloud to the gusting wind. The only comfort being the warm whuff of breath on her neck from her concerned mount. This trip wasn't bringing the solace she'd sought, instead trivialising the wreckage of her life. And magnified the absence of her love.
The wind whipped her cries away as if they'd never been. And no-one cared.

Very evocative scene - excellent work!
Thank you. It's a shame with just an image you can't get the smell of a moorland or the sound and feel of a constant cold wind.
Great work describing with words and image the tragedy of her life. It's poignant.
Thank you. It so happens today is our 35th wedding anniversary and recently I have been thinking about how I'd be without my love, and the conclusions are pretty devastating. That's the sort of frame of mind that had me think of this image. Probably need to do a celebration image to reflect the fact everything has actually remained fantastic for this time, and nothing has gone wrong.
Great work here!
Thank you. Much appreciated.
