Description
The Dakar Rally (formerly known as the Paris–Dakar Rally) is a rally-raid competition considered the world's most prestigious long-distance desert rally. Since 2022, it has been part of the World Rally-Raid Championship (W2RC). From 1979 to 2007, it was held annually, primarily on the African continent. In 2008, the Dakar Rally was cancelled due to a terrorist threat. Since 2009, the Africa Eco Race has been held on the same route, founded by Hubert Auriol, René Metge, and Jean-Louis Schlesser as a successor event on the African continent. From 2009 to 2019, the Dakar Rally was relocated to South America for security reasons, and since 2020, it has been held in Saudi Arabia.
