This works so well on so many levles; purely as a composition, the balance and colour are lovely, with delightful little touches like thelight from the lamp becoming the sunrise over the sea. ... but as a visual poem to motherhood its really outstanding. Grace indeed!

(and begs the question, does the cat see more than just the butterlies? They always seem to have such a knowing air about them that one wonders if they are partly in another realm!)

Ah, what a pleasure, my friend, to begin the year with the keenness of your gaze; it's enchanting. I must confess that the lamp's glow transforming into a sunrise had escaped me. On the other hand, I perfectly understood the cat's posture as sensing the presence of this benevolent angel leaning over the sleeping mother. The butterflies are both the embodiment of this young woman's blissful dream and the angel's heralding presence. I recall that beautiful analysis by Daniel Arasse, who, in paintings of the Annunciation, perceived that the genius of Renaissance painters lay in introducing a disruption to the construction of perspective to materialize the intrusion of the divine into the human world. Here, the angel is in the foreground at the edge of the bed, if we understand it as his reflection in the mirror. To achieve this effect in Poser, he must be declared visible through ray tracing, and simultaneously invisible to the camera.
