If I ever meet this gentleman on the street I will be polite and not ask him what happened to his face...perhaps we can even be good friends! You did an excellent job in presenting this strange man to us. If we keep admiring your creativity for making these type of characters, one day they might not appear so strange to us but instead appear rather normal.
I still remember seeing E.T. in the movie for the very first time and thinking he looked so strange, but by the end of the movie he no longer seemed strange to me. I think that by being an admirer of your art, that is what's happening to me and these characters you do now appear normal to me.
