The three monkeys, also known as the "three wise monkeys" or "mystical monkeys," symbolize the Japanese proverb "See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil" and are famous for their carving at the Tōshō-gū Shrine in Nikko, Japan. They represent avoiding evil by not perceiving it, not speaking of it, and ignoring it in order to focus on the good. The monkeys are named Mizaru (eyes covered), Kikazaru (ears covered), and Iwazaru (mouth covered). The problem with the current US president is that he sees nothing wrong, especially not what he and his cronies are doing. Hearing and listening are also not his strong suits; he prefers to listen to himself rather than others, especially where it's desperately needed. Unfortunately, objective arguments are not to be expected from him either. Instead, mockery, hatred, insults, arrogant and inappropriate remarks increasingly spill from his lips, which have become a real problem, not just in the USA! We are now entering the second year of his term and have two more to go. Therefore, it should be the wish of every person on this planet that we all, worldwide, are spared as much as possible from the harmful effects of the US administration. THAT would be my greatest personal wish for the coming new year.
