Description
The bottom of the hull broke open and bow and stern became 1,800 apart. Objects from the Titanic littered the ocean floor. Located 400 nautical miles southeast of Newfoundland is where the wreck of the Titanic lies.
Since it was rediscovered, recovering the Titanic piece by piece has occurred through expeditions in 1987, 1993, 1994, 1996, 1998, 2000 and 2004. More than 5,500 artifacts have been saved so far.
In Summer of 2010, an eighth expedition happened, where video of the ship underwater has been recorded in high detail to help further research and close analysis of the Titanic.
A dive is from 12 to 15 hours with 2.5 hours to reach the wreck and 2.5 hours to reach the surface. This is done with the submersibles which take on extra water called ballast to dive and release it in order to rise again.
