Human skulls – silent witnesses to a previous life, each one of them has a story. A story of love, longing, passion, dreams, but also of painful experiences of all kinds, such as disappointments, personal losses, falls, hatred, and despair. I've often wondered, when a historical skeleton is unearthed somewhere, what might have happened to that person during their lifetime? Skulls play a central role in many cultures, for example, in Mexico. On the Day of the Dead (Spanish: Día de Muertos, also Día de los Muertos or Día de los Difuntos), one of the most important Mexican holidays, the deceased are traditionally remembered. The preparation period for the festivities begins in mid-October; the celebration runs from the eve of All Saints' Day (October 31) to the commemoration of All Souls' Day on November 2. The Day of the Dead is celebrated in different ways depending on the region.
