Given the vacancy of the papal office, cardinals play a crucial role in choosing Christ's earthly representative.
Bishops, on the other hand, are officials in Christian churches with a leading position, both spiritual and administrative, who are responsible for governing dioceses. They are responsible for doctrine, administration, and the ordination of priests in their respective territories.
Apart from the fact that Christianity is the largest religious community worldwide, and Catholicism is arguably still the most powerful part of this community, also from a political and economic perspective, its representatives determine the lives of billions of people (2.5 billion as of 2022).
