This rather reminds me of a scene from a documentary I saw ages ago about the Holocaust. Scores of abandoned suitcases awaiting inspection by the SS for the valuables their former owners placed in them. For "abandoned," read "stolen."

I realize that interpretation might not have been what you had in mind.

That's exactly the point I'm trying to make. The pictures of the stolen suitcases that are looted after the former owners, who in most cases are doomed to die, are taken away. Yesterday, April 28, when I submitted the picture, was the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. There is a political party in Germany that calls itself the “Alternative for...”, but which itself fuels hatred and incitement and must be categorized as belonging to the right-wing political spectrum. My picture tries to support resistance against forgetting.

Worse still, some political parties trivialize and deny the events that took place in Germany just over 80 years ago.

I certainly should have known better. But "No to the Alternative!" seems the better caption IMHO."No Alternative" seems to suggest that murderous destruction cannot be avoided.

Very powerful image. It's unfortunate there seems to be emerging the repeat of very tragic and horrible history. I do agree we must not forget what has happened before and also importantly learn not to repeat.

The AfD in Germany was today classified by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution as “definitely right-wing extremist”. A small success...
