Description
Rungholt was a settlement and a legal area in the North Frisian coastal region of Strand in Schleswig, in what was then Denmark, and from the 13th century also a parish (Old Frisian: kerspel). It was destroyed in the storm surge of 1362. Over the centuries, remains of the settlement, located in the Wadden Sea, were repeatedly washed out. In May 2023, one of the two main settlement cores, including the foundations of the long-sought large church, was discovered.
