Yes, I know what you mean. I grew up in New York, played stick ball, made a scooter, flew model planes, played hid and seek, wandered around the neighborhood, captured lightning bugs, and sat on the deck on hot nights looking at the stars.

We may need to find more worlds like that before we kill each other off being stuck on just one, since so many people can't even get along with their neighbors.
A "Simpler Life" will only begin once we can get of this rock and colonize new worlds. We need the frontier back, and the freedom-by-distance-from-the-central-power that it offers. Expect cohesive tribes of believers to go first and to set up their own places in the distant suns, far from the eyes of a central controlling narrative. They'll likely be "simpler" based on that. They'll use technology to get there, set up their own world, and probably just forget the technology that got them there, maybe mythologizing it and integrating it into their own religions.
