In 1974, I was on holiday with my parents on Lake Constance; around lunchtime, we went to a restaurant on the island of Mainau and sat outside because it was a wonderful sunny day. There was a girls' boarding school very close by (I didn't know at first!) and suddenly this divine creature appeared up on the balustrade: Germaine, a French woman, a mulatto and the picture of a woman! Later, I slipped away under some pretext and we got to know each other. When the ferry left in the evening (I can still remember the image!), she waved wildly at me and I promised to come back the next day. However, my parents found out what was going on and my mother refused to let me go back the next day...I could have strangled her at that moment! Unfortunately, I was only 16 and had to accept it! I think it was also because she didn't look very "German" with her dark skin and that annoyed me even more!
When I met my current wife (Thai), I had these "concerns" again at first, but luckily I didn't have to worry about them anymore because I was 38 by then! We have been married for almost 30 years now and it was and is the right decision, despite all the initial resistance from outside.
There is no account for who you fall in love with, I was the tallest in my year at school, most of the girls were quite small so in dance class I always would ask a girl as near my own height and never ask the small girls. I few years back I was talking to one of my old class mates she was still very small she asked about the reason why I never ask her for a dace or a date as she had thought of asking me for a date. I told her it was her lack of height and I did not to date a girl who I could not see her face.. she asked about my wife I told her she was just 4foot 11 in height I fell in love with her voice on the CB radio
