There is a great variation in the coloration of this Mantis. This is a brown Variant.
This European Mantis is a male. The Adult females are generally too large and heavy for their wings to enable a take-off.

I once saw on TV a milk white mantis with red accents instantly seize and begin eating what may have been its offspring. The victim as an identical if much smaller version of itself.
