Description
Of all Shakespeare's heroines, I find Miranda one of the most intriguing ... on the one hand portrayed as a paragon of "feminine virues"; naïve,demure, kind and compassionate but throughout the play she's also determined, willful, willing to challenge authority and to fly in the face of social convention. As a "coming of age" story in many respects, the tempest (even though the storm itself ocupies barely any of the narrative) is a fitting allegory.
