__ ...Of all the very few cities coined 'pink cities' worldwide, I have visited so far only two, the first one being Jaipur, the capital city of the state of Rajasthan, in India. As you will probably have understood, there's nothing really related to the novel by Charles Dickens in the set of photos I took in Jaipur a couple of years back, but the title of it only and nothing more !
__ The reason why Jaipur was painted pink dates back from a visit to the city by Queen Victoria and her son, Edward VII, in 1876. Since pink denotes the color of hospitality, Maharaja Ram Singh of Jaipur painted the whole city pink in color to welcome the royal guests. The tradition has been since then followed by the residents who are now, by law, compelled to maintain the pink color.
__ first photo: The Hawa Mahal, otherwise known as The Palace of Winds, with its distinctive façade right in the heart of the old city. Its honeycomb-like structures were designed to allow the Maharaja's wives to observe street festivals and Jaipur's daily life while remaining concealed from passers-by further down the street .
__ second photo: the Peacock Gate, in the City Palace, is one of the most famous of the four gates to the Palace, which are depicting seasons; it symbolizes the monsoon and the autumn season in it. This gate is dedicated to Lord Vishnu.
__ third photo: The ceiling in a hall inside the City Palace. Of course, most of the public and administrative buildings of the old city and the huge walls surrounding it are painted in the same pink colour. Jaipur is one of the 43 UNESCO World Heritage Sites in India and to me, absolutely worth a visit.

Après que ma fille aînée m'a fait rêvé avec des photos d'Ouzbékistan où elle a séjourné récemment, voilà que tu en ajoutes une couche avec ces superbes clichés de Jaipur...un autre endroit où je n'irai jamais mais, je me répète, qui me fait rêver. Tu as mis tout ton talent de photographe, qui est grand, dans ces photos qui mériteraient un prix.

Je crois que gaius a tout dit dans son commentaire : tes photos sont d'une telle qualité qu'elles mériteraient un prix ! Mon dieu, que tu me fais rêver avec ces clichés. Là j'ai juste l'envie d'aller manger un bon curry dans un restaurant indien de ma ville natale. Au passage j'apprends la signification de la couleur rose dans ce grand pays qu'est l'Inde et j'ai trouvé l'explication fascinante ! Merci de nous régaler avec des images de qualité et c'est dommage que l'on ne te voit pas plus souvent sur ta galerie !

Beautiful fort made of red stone, with over 950 small windows, I can say that it is really one of the most beautiful forts in the world and Rajasthan is the most majestic and beautiful and rich in historical heritage. A lot of credit goes to the Archeological Survey of India, they have preserved the history of India beautifully. Excellent set of photos... obviously, you are very talented with the camera.
