And the soul of the rose went into my blood, since even the armor that protects my body from death, did not allow it to pass the thorns that prevent my love from going to you. I offer you this rose with the color increased by my blood, since it is all that my hand can pick in the short distance that separates me from yours. May the unique perfume of this flower transmit to you the beating of my heart.

What a masterful re-imagining and a humbling dedication!
With the seemingly simple expedient fo substituting the armoured knoget for the wall, and entire new universe of meaning and interpretation is opened up. And in this case, a collision of worlds (and works; with Burne-Jones. Rosetti and Waterhouse all coming together)... It also seems the themes are intertwining, as if the lady from the rose garden has become La Belle Dame Sans Merci, and the knight has ben ensared anew...
(and apologies for not having visted or commented for a few weeks; my attempts at catching up with all the wonderful art my friends have posted has recently been set back by microsoft; I'm still rebuilding my system but promise to catch up ASAP!)
