In Greek mythology, owls are associated with Athena, Goddess of Wisdom and Warfare. I've been spending a lot of time in Athens, Greece (in Greek it's called Αθήνα or Athina) over the past few years, exploring my roots, and a lot of the Athena related ancient architecture is covered in little owls, so I suppose it seemed appropriate. And I particularly like barn owls :)
