Ha, ha! I don't think you're the only one - they fenced this sucker in so people couldn't just walk up and touch it. :D
If every warm hand started touching it, it would start melting even sooner. Don't know how cold it was that day, but there is water moisture on the pavers below it.
It was fairly cold but not freezing if I remember correctly...they did remain pretty solid for the day I was there though which was good. You're right though, that would start to collapse quick if too many poked at it!
