I will never be able to understand how people, who are narrow-minded in their behaviour towards others, can start a new year with a clear conscience and carry all the crap from the past year into the new one without any sense of guilt!
Gonna try to make as soon as possible some comments on your new year wishes for 2024.

Quelque part à droite, hors champ, la porte du bar s'était refermée violemment. Cette silhouette qui s'éloignait avait juste eu le temps de laisser là, sa méchanceté ancienne, comme on renverse un poubelle dans la rue, en laissant aux autres le soin de la ramasser. Les deux femmes avaient suspendu leurs gestes, comme sidérées ; pas sûr que le goût de la bière et la saveur de la cigarette, suffisent à faire passer cela. La cliente en avait assez de ces pensées qui l'objectifiaient, comme autant de regards trop longtemps posés sur elle, alors elle se retourna lentement et sourit à la barmaid. il y avait dans le visage de celle-ci quelque chose qui lui rappelait ses plus jeunes années et sa détermination à avancer. D'un même accord elles trinquèrent en entrechoquant leurs bouteilles, burent une gorgée, et comme par télépathie, déclarèrent dans un grand éclat de rire libérateur : "si le monde croit qu'il peut me gâcher mon sourire !"

Quel beau commentaire cher ami, surtout: ....si le monde croit qu'il peut me gâcher mon sourire...! Pfff t'a raison personne est en mesure de me dérober mon sourire (ce qui se cache derrière est un autre sujet et, fondamentalement, ne regarde personne.) Je te souhaite, et à tes proches, une nouvelle année 2024 meilleure et plus paisible, car 2023 peut être jetée à la poubelle. 😊👍

Some people have seared their conscience, so they can do evil without feeling any guilt. Avoid those people when you can, resist them when you must.
Well said than done, when it comes to people like that it's better to keep your mouth shut and try to avoid them!

People shouldn't need a calender to sort their problems. Always be fair, be nice, and be tolerant and hope for the reverse - to a point :)
Well staged and posed Ute. The expression on the sad gal is spot on. The bartmaid also - sort of like "What is your problem when I have the solution in hand?" :)

A very thought provoking text and image. I like the story Marc composed regarding the picture, also. There's always plenty to think about when you reach a temporal landmark like the new year (Birthdays and anniversaries are similar landmark's I think but we all that use the Gregorian Calendar share the same New Year).
