Description

Thanks for the ICM idea Christian. I've never tried it before, but seeing the work you did with the candle I wanted to try it with this copper holiday lantern I made last year. It was a fun process. In the view screen I liked the telephoto image better (2nd one) but in retrospect (or full screen respect) I like the short lens (1st one) better. The 3rd was a happy accident with the telephoto.

Thanks, it's fun and pretty easy to try. A low shutter speed with a bit of intentional movement (ICM = Intentional Camera Movement). The hardest part is getting the balance of blur or deciding on what kind of blur, horizontal, vertical, wavy...

Cool effect, looks great. A possible variation could be to mix it with rear curtain sync to get a focused image but with a trail of light, might not work with the distance though. Happy New Year

Thanks for that, will have to look up how to do it and give it a try and also appreciate the link to Erik Malm. There is lots to learn and I agree, I would have preferred the background not be recognizable. Composition would have helped a lot with that I'm sure.

I'm glad that I was able to inspire you a little. Once you get the hang of it, ICM photography is a lot of fun. A big challenge here is that part of the shot still retains its sharpness and the background can still be recognized to some extent. I'm still practising that myself.I was inspired by the tips Erik Malm gave me in a photography magazine. It's also worth visiting his homepage (http://www.erikmalm.com/).
