I think its hiding from all the South Texas Hunters! I'm told these birds mate for life. They use to fill the skies around here, not so much anymore.

I use to have trouble with doves building nests in the gutters. I rescued 2 or 3 babies just before a heavy rain storm was ready to flood the gutters
I hope they found some better place to nest, sounds like a dangerous spot they kept picking!
