Description
The Emperor Augustus, with members of his family (wife Livia, her son and future Emperor Tiberius, and her grandson - and also Augustus' great nephew - Germanicus) advisors and Praetorian Guards in attendance, has just learned of the massacre of three of his legions in the Teutoberg Forest in Germania. He is reported to have screamed, "Quinctilius Varus, give me back my legions!"
