Description
Several days before May 1st, when I was a kid, we made May Baskets out of decorated paper cups with pipe cleaner handles. They were filled with small candies and a few of whatever Spring flowers happened to be blooming. Then after school on May 1st we would deliver the baskets to all the neighbors within walking distance in our small neighborhood. You were supposed to hang them on the front porch doorknob, knock on the door or ring the bell and RUN! The trick was to get away so they didn't know who had left the basket. LOL
I know it sounds kind of silly now, but it was great fun. I feel kind of sorry for kids today that they don't know all the simple joys of childhood that I had growing up.
I don't think AI knows what a pipe cleaner is. Couldn't get decent May Baskets so use your imagination.

happy may day to you too! ^^ lovely bouquet, very sweet candy cups (pun intended!), love that style. very interesting story there - i had no idea, sounds a bit like an inverted spring version of halloween ^^. i know that in germany and probably here too they had may events, like climbing a pole, may tree, probably flowers etc. now it's mainly about work day and marches.. the only tradition i've experienced is the gifting of Lily of the valley, one of my favorite flowers ^^
Thanks for the comment. We had the May Pole tradition also but that was done at school. Ribbons tied to top of pole, each child held on to a hanging ribbon and then they "danced" around the pole weaving in and out.
