Farm Boy and the Angel - 21, September, 1823 (revised 1/18/2023) Years ago I picked up a paperback historical novel titled, Farm Boy and the Angel. Like many historical novels, part was based on facts, and another part of fiction. I've since dug in to the history behind the story and I've decided to do some renders based on the story, but from the factual accounts. I've studied this story for nearly 50 years. This render is based on factual events on the morning of September 21st, 1823. "Convenient to the village of Manchester, Ontario county, New York, stands a hill of considerable size, and the most elevated of any in the neighborhood. On the west side of this hill, not far from the top, under a stone of considerable size, lay the plates, deposited in a stone box. This stone was thick and rounding in the middle on the upper side, and thinner towards the edges, so that the middle part of it was visible above the ground, but the edge all around was covered with earth. "Having removed the earth, I obtained a lever, which I got fixed under the edge of the stone, and with a little exertion raised it up." -- Joseph Smith, Junior's, historical account from his own writings.
