Using an amazing AI Background 1
I created the background with AI. I love how AI chose to take my prompt words and create a picture hanging on the wall. I love it as a background.
The character is a G9 from DAZ.

I think it's brilliant. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I seem to remember that the old masters used to layer the paint (or glaze?) so that the colors come through the layers, creating all kinds of hues.
Each painter had their own techniques, but I think what you're referring to is "back painting". I was taught it was called "back painting" where they would paint the entire canvas in colors and textures they wanted and then they'd work the subject in over that back painting. It's a technique that I use when doing a portrait from scratch in Corel Painter (using oil paints). It works quite well.
Any painter who hasn't tried Corel Painter is missing out on one of the most remarkable painting programs. It is the closest thing to painting with real oils (or any other media) to real life painting in the digital world.
