This was when she learned it wasn't a simple "cake walk". Great scene, capturing their terror.
Really nice period piece, Ute, although the lamp on the table is a bit jarring and seems more contemporary. I love the costumes. Another mature lady? Although she is usually depicted as young and a bit foolish I think maybe you have captured something that is closer to real history. They both express a dread and fear of the future in their faces that I think is very effective and not your usual style. I really like the whole of it, Ute. Thank you for sharing.

Engaging scene, and avoids the clichés of this subject quite adroitly! In fact the whole line about eating cake was probably an invention by Rousseau who wrote "Enfin Je me rappelai le pis-aller d'une grande Princesse à qui l'on disait que les paysans n'avaient pas de pain, et qui répondit: Qu'ils mangent de la brioche" a year before Marie Antoinette had even arrived in France form Austria!
