...well of course, it's all dark some of the time, so it's not so much the dark side as some of the dark places. This is a simulated time lapse of the moon over a single Lunar day, roughly twenty-eight days on Earth. The view takes in the south pole and the surrounding areas, where in some of the craters the sunlight never reaches the surface. Can you spot which areas are always in darkness? In these permanently shaded areas the temperature is around -238 degrees Celcius (-397 degrees Fahrenheit). The video is best watched on the largest screen you have, especially if you follow the link to the higher resolution YouTube version.
This is another use of NASA's CGI Moon Kit that you can download and use in almost any 3d application. https://svs.gsfc.nasa.gov/4720
There is a 4k UHD version of this on my YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=layGVcuRBjc
Music by Beethoven; it seemed appropriate even though Beethoven never gave that piece the title of "Moonlight Sonata."
