Lots of emotion in this scene - the cultures in that part of the world are so different.. You've shown it beautifully here, Barb.

you've captured the old Hindu societal order of castes here, and vividly. The "dalit" (untouchables) were the unfortunate lowest caste (you may know all this, as it's all over your image), and you caught the giving of money exactly how it was supposed to be done: You don't even touch the hand of the untouchable, you drop the money from above. In your image, the rich man can't even look. Shame on all sides.
And then there's your light and color: Really vivid, Barb, the receiver's gown is a beautiful autumnal orange (saffron, a hue also worn by monks and nuns to capture the color of "flame" because they metaphorically burnt their earthly existence to embrace the spiritual); and the rich man is bathed in creamy yellow-white light, with a luminous red turban. Even the arch has vivid hues. Beautiful color and light here. And a great background with that elephant sculpture and buildings and so on. This has to be India or surrunding....You took a painful moment and gave it beauty and great light, but you still caught the shame and restriction of that age old system. (Not all ancient Hindus accepted caste; but those who did believed that the Untouchables were untouchable because of their bad karma in previous lives. Heavy leaps of faith, w/ agonizing results.) A beautiful, eye popping portrait, Barb.

BAKSHEESH seems a far more honourable definition of that word which also appears as English slang as Buckshee, which basically means something acquired by an individual, owing to the fact that, that something was surplus to requirements and was seen as being free, or, "Buckshee". Both your men look so honourable in spite of their varied status Barbara. Lovely work! We're getting a new puppy tomorrow!

Fantastic image, the statue in the background caught my eye. The foreground image is wonderful, you can see the disinterest of the wealthy man as he displays his "generosity".
