Description
By the time they reached the market square in seemed like half of Relkath’s Foot was either following along with them or met them there. It was a display that made Courynn decidedly uncomfortable, left Nymara confused and even seemed to embarrass Talice a little… of course the real focus of attention, Saevel, who was marched bond and nearly naked at sword point ahead of the two score villagers he’d help to capture, would have rather not be there at all.
“What’s the meaning of all this?” Dervila Greenbow, leader of the Masters of the Yuirwood, growled as she met them. Then her eyes fell on a familiar face and she roared in surprise; “Saevel!?! You’re dead! We found your burnt body with Nym and Taeghen two months ago.”
“He betrayed us to Thay,” Talice explained bitterly, seizing his arm and shoving him forward harshly. “He was working with a Red Witch to capture and sell our people into slavery… using the menhir.”
“This can’t be true,” the stunned senior Master gasped. He’d been one of her most trusted agents. But she couldn’t deny the obvious implication that he’d murdered the other two members of his patrol and turned traitor.
“Just kill me now and get it over with,” he snarled venomously. Given his options, a quick death seemed the best.
Dervila’s hand shot to the hilt of her sword, but she stayed it, and instead commanded two of the Masters who flanked her; “Take him! He doesn’t deserve an easy death.”
While he was hauled off to the Master’s Hall, a massive tree with a large structure suspended in its branches, she turned her attention to the villagers, ordering that their needs be seen to. Then, she looked to Talice and praised her; “You’ve done very well… saving all these innocent people… and bringing the traitor to justice.”
“Thank you,” the druid replied embarrassed by the recognition, while the senior Master wrapped her arm around her shoulders and lead her off in the traitor’s wake.
The spectacle over, the crowd rapidly dispersed and the square resumed its normal operation as the town’s primary marketplace… leaving Courynn and Nymara standing alone, their presence and participation completely ignored.
“What about us?” the befuddled star elf whined, looking about in confusion.
“To them, we’re not Yuir… and we never will be,” Courynn replied with a clear bitter edge to his voice. “You’re a stranger and I’m just human.”
Since they met he’d implied that the half-elven people of the Yuirwood held a prevailing prejudice against the minority of humans who dwelled within the woodlands, but she would’ve never imagined it was so grievous. Sildeyuir is almost exclusively populated by star elves, so she’d never experienced anything like this before. However, she now understood a great deal more about her companion, and why he seemed compelled to earn the respect of the native Yuir.

Excellent story,wonderful image,klasse work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks again for all your kind comments!
I really wish this image was brighter. May be OK on Windows but almost invisible for Mac users like me.
I'm sorry it didn't come out well on the Mac... I used the same lighting as the rest of the series which I tied to match with the background.
Marvellous chapter!
Thanks again for all your kind comments.
The most sensational character. She’s quite lovely. I also like reading the detailed backstory each of your characters yet.
Thank you for your kind comment... I'm glad you enjoyed it.
great chapter. sad Courynn and Nymara aren't getting more recognition.
Thanks again for all your kind comments! In most fantasy settings humans are seen as either equal to elves, half-elves and other races or predominate over them, so I thought I'd take advantage of the fact that half-elves are the vast majority in the Yuirwood and highlight a theme of prejudice against humans.
wonderful story and image!
