Description

Han Mei hair is just about perfect for a youthful haircut, don't you think? I know these last two are a little dark. I just wanted to get the character done, and wasn't really doing serious portrait work. The setting for the sky is "Sunset" because I was struck by a fancy notion of this being late in the day, after work. Hey, I might have been wanting to get it done quickly, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't still tell a bit of a story! Brian is a quiet kid who loves dinosaurs and reading about dinosaurs. He doesn't have a lot of friends his age - kids can be cruel to those who come from a non-typical family structure. However, "Aunt" Lola is one of his favorite people. She lets him play with her collection of army trucks! I figure if I follow Lola-logic through, there's a patch of her yard where a kid can dig to his heart's content and not have to worry about filling in the holes after. BTW, I also think all kids should have a digging spot. I grew up with a lab/rotweiller that was a digging champion. She had her own yard to dig, and I spent a lot of my time there. Funny story, one time she dug a hole so big, a four-wheel-drive truck got stuck trying to cross it. She was after gophers, you see. The neighbor decided to go four-wheeling across the field before the farmer came to till it over, and his truck hit the hole and disappeared. He laughed so hard, and never got pissy about the dog. One of my better neighbors, TBH. Too bad his wife was... well, nevermind. I'm going to try and get a scene render done now, and then get some writing done later. I'm sorta waiting for the muse. I mean, I know what I'm going to write, but getting it started is proving tricky. I usually end up with half a dozen "false starts" before I get a book going. ~~LA

Really nicely done - Brian looks like a very cool kid - and I know all too well what it's like.. I was always the "odd" kid back in my grade school days.

Love the story about the excavator dog - that's hilarious, and so cool your neighbor was so good natured about it.

Thank you. Yeah, Abby was a second mother to me. She made it to a ripe old age when she passed - 19 and a half. Not bad for a gopher-chaser.

About a week before she passed, she snatched a pigeon right out of the air. Blind, deaf, and nearly lame. Can't beat instincts.

What a wonderfully cute child. We really need to make sure we nurture and teach them well. We would be much better off if our young ones learned about social responsibility at an early age and practiced it throughout the childhood and teenage years.It’s a nice thought and I hope our young ones learn this valuable life skill.

We got a real chance to make a positive change, to teach compassion, to demonstrate tolerance, to normalize acceptance. I hope it happens. I see things keep getting political, but I hope/pray that educators see this as the opportunity it is. A soft reboot. The world could be a beautiful place.
