Description

This is for Yves (Cyve). I created this image last week, for one of our most poetic artists. And forgive my not translating this to French: I'm in a car right now (!!!!), and I can't do a proper French translation. (If I use a web translator, it will sound stiff and unnatural. Pardonnez-moi, Yves. Je suis désolé que ce soit seulement dans l'anglais! Je suis désolé que vous deviez traduire...) (This is best seen large...) (and the dancer in my final panel is from a painting I made for Yves a few years ago: I hope it's ok that I "borrowed" it, lol...) --------- It's not easy to describe Yves' work...To me, it feels like poetry and dance all at once... Here are some adjectives (adjectifs): Yves' art is filled with panache, style, class, grace, elegance, poise, and always beauty. His models sweep into his paintings like wind...and, in many of his images, his models' hair sweeps across his images like ballet. His poses flow like fine calligraphy, or (again) like ballet... And (magnifique): Yves has one of the most eloquent lines of any artist I know: His lines swirl around his paintings as if they were spun out of silk...they're some of the most eloquent lines I've seen in my life as an artist. But, also: Yves' paintings exude intelligence. Each painting is a sonnet...His paintings feel like fresh breezes to me: They have freshness (fraîcheur? clarté?)...they have music. En résumé (in a nutshell), Yves creates magic for us...and (in addition!)...he's an extremely kind person, always supportive of all of us... Soooooooo... Happy Birthday, Yves! (Joyeux anniversaire!) Thank you for bringing us a piece of heaven each time you come here. I wish you a wonderful year (je vous souhaite une année magnifique), with inspiration and joy. And may you have many more years of joy, creation, love and great beauty, always! Mark (Some of you will notice that I've used this scene in several images, only because it's one of my favorite places...it's a few blocks from home...) ------------------

Did not know it was Yves b-day. Your manias are brilliant as always Mark. He does have a unique talent above us all. And you have mega talent also my friend. I'll mention his b-day tomorrow on my Mid week post if I don't space it. Thanks for sharing Mark. I think he'll be touched by this work. Steve.. like/fave as always on your work.

A wonderful and thoughtful BD dedi...do like your photo manips...these are interesting and each offers something for the viewer, but my fav in this group is the cyan (blue hues are my favorite colors)...do hope that crazy soul crossing the street made it safely :)

If you start at the top and view down, each photo gets brighter. Each photo gets more exciting and dramatic and then a dancer appears. A dancer holding light to show the way to a more joyous day. Happy Birthday, Yves, may your day be joyous! Thank you for making this and every day a brighter one, Mark.

This is so perfect for Yves, Mark! And the cherry on top is the dancing lady at the bottom. So cool, buddy! I love it!

I absolutely love Yves' wonderful minimalist style. It reminds me a lot of Nagel's work in Playboy, but I like Yves' work even better. I don't know how many times I've tried to do something similar - with both traditional and digital, and can't come close to either of them. The minimalist style of Yves' wonderful work - or Nagel's - isn't as easy as it looks; at least for me.. Yves can probably do it with his eyes closed!

Great BD dedication for your friend, Yves, the Rendo artist, apparently not Yves Klein, the famous French artist, born 1928, died 1962, so it evidently it is not him. Nor is it even Yves Montand, born way back in 1921, and still alive. And you did all this while driving a car? Were you humming La Marseillaise while you were at it? Just simple texting is a no no while driving, but doing Photoshop and authoring a vast dedication at the same time is really cutting it close. Anyway, I really like this fivesome of Chicago street scenes you posted above. I like them all, but favor No.2. Great what you did with this in your own patented way, Mark. Joie de vivre.

I have to agree, I visited his gallery and Yves work is Oh La La with a big dose of style and class. And yes, it has movement like a dance. A celebration of life. A lovely birthday tribute for him, and I like how the photos go from black and white to eye popping color that makes me want to sit up, stand up, and jump around. Which is something I rarely do anymore. The transitions of colors feels like the transitions of a life lived to the max and still going strong. Bravo to you and to Yves.

Great job, Mark and Happy Birthday, Yves! Your photos of The Second City are always perfect and I suspect you worked in advertising. Your talent with the pen and camera screams it and you live in a key place for it, but I could be wrong. We are looking south while standing on an island in the middle of North Michigan Avenue, near the midpoint of The Magnificent Mile. And you live a few blocks from here which to me is way past cool! I love Chicago and I'm only 401 miles from Villa Nova Pizzeria in Stickney. This is our first destination, we set Google on it and order about 20 minutes out. Then we stop at the liqueur store just a few blocks away. After arriving we enjoy a mixed drink with some of the best pizza in the world, thin crust and oh so fresh! But what about Chicago's famous deep dish pizza? If I had wanted Lasagna I would have ordered it. The most exciting thing about Chicago for me is the way it was rebuilt after the fire because artists were involved in planning it. Everywhere you look is beautiful or downright breathtaking! It seems all the streets end at a beautiful museum, or a big statue with glorious fountains! Chicago has much to see and the "L" makes it so easy. Last time there we went to see the Cubs play the Pirates. Wrigleyville is a serious party town, and at 1060 W Addison Street is Wrigley Field. What a thrill it is to watch a game there and the wall with the ivy, oh my! Half the fun was getting there, as we got hang out with a whole bunch of excited, happy, and very nice Chicagoans while riding the L! They all were sporting white Cubs jerseys, blue hats with a red "C", and carrying their ball glove. It was a big party and we were in it! We got there early but it was late, the place was already packed. Everybody seemed to be in line with us as we got our beer and bratwurst, then Jesse Jackson walked by on the way to his seat, I love Chicago! The best cheeseburger in town is under The Magnificent Mile at the Billy Goat Tavern. After a couple drinks if you tilt your head sideways and squint you can almost see Aykroyd and Belushi sitting at the bar. As our burgers came to the table my son asked the waiter about the little door in the wall, it wasn't very wide and only came up to my knees. He said it went to the parking lot, and I realized that is how they brought the booze in during Prohibition as it was exactly the size for pushing a case of liqueur through! I love Chicago! This is a wonderful dedication Mark, you aced it! I love the second or blue one! You be good, Tom

What an impressive spectacle this is for your friend, dear Mark. There is so much "magic" by you. Real bangers, a range of eye-catchers, and I love them all, from the sober black-and-white, to that red lady. It is again a top performance of you, I have no idea how you can create such a thing. Awesome!

Of course I missed Yves Birthday... silly me! I am so glad that you did not missed to do a modern, stylisch, colorful dedication to him because he earned it really. To me you and Yves have some thing similar you both are having a very eloquent way to make pleasure with your kind of expression - you are doing it with writing and Yves with drawing both real artist! priska ps: I like specially the first and the second of your pictures in this!
