Description
"What exactly am I looking for again?" asked Penelope, as she peered through the telescope's eyepiece.
"Anything that isn't sand dunes and desert," answered Polonius. Hunched over the jumble of charts and maps strewn across his desk. "We're approaching the coordinates of the entrance to Lady Katrin's 'Old Way'. So, look for anything out of the ordinary -- rocky outcroppings, canyons, structures, water courses, big signs that read 'Old Way Entrance.' Anything."
Penelope wrinkled her brow in consternation. Lifting her head, she said, "Well, Pol, all I see is Maker-forsaken wasteland stretching to the horizon in all directions."
"That's not good," he said as he straightened and stretched.
Polonius sat in his captain's chair. Leaning back, he put his feet up on the desk and stared into the ceiling.
After a moment, he said, "This just doesn't make sense." Gesturing to the maps and navigational instruments on his desk, he continued,"The coordinates Lady Katrin gave me would indicate that the Old Way is a subterranean route. How can that be, Pen?"
"Perhaps it's not what you think it is," she responded. "What if it's a portal, something hidden and left untouched by The Truing? What if we must use the Temporal Displacement Engine and Singularity Harness to gain access to the Old Way? I'd say that given our experiences so far, anything is possible."
Polonius pondered Penelope's proposed possibility.
"I suppose you're right, Pen," he admitted. "Anything is possible."
