John called his friend Rob when he was done for the day. Rob was the one to help him create his current identity. Every so often, he had to change who he was to hide that he didn’t age. “Hello?” Rob asked. “Rob, it’s John. Would you find out if the gate is being used by someone besides Nathan?” “I haven’t heard anything, but I’ll ask. Why? Did something happen to Mitch?” “No, I ran into a dragon today.” “From Torthoc? Did he realize you were a dragon?” “He recognized me.” “After all these years?” “He has a perfect memory. He never forgets anything. And he was an artist. He was constantly drawing. I don’t know how many pictures he did of me. I may have changed my hair and lost a little weight, but I don’t look that different.” “I’ll see what I can find out. Maybe you might be able to slip back through the gate and find out something there.” “I can’t leave Mitch. Besides, what if they didn’t come that way?” “What other ways could they come? Are there more gates?” “Not that I know of. But Nathan’s people had abilities the rest of us don’t. This dragon knew one of them. She might have helped.” “Like that woman you wanted me to look into a few years ago?” “It’s the same woman. That was why I risked contacting her.” “You keep your eyes open, and I’ll do the same.
