Description

Just one of 45 pics of these spectacular trees captured 1/29/2012 at the beautiful Rancho Los Alamitos Historic Ranch and Gardens in beautiful Long Beach, California. Ficus or fiːkəs is a genus of about 850 species of woody trees, shrubs, vines, epiphytes and hemiepiphytes in the family Moraceae. Collectively known as fig trees or figs, they are native throughout the tropics with a few species extending into the semi-warm temperate zone. Source: Wikipedia free encyclopedia.

Your ficus series is filled with dappled light, and all kinds of energies. This one is typified by a very heavy trunk---like elephant skin---and a lava-spill feeling. Really formidable. You caught the roots looking like layers of skin on a fat buddha. Powerful and beautiful shot---we have to remind ourselves that that's an American city back there (Long Beach), because the tree looks like it belongs to an ancient Hindu land-of-the-gods. A beautiful addition to this beautiful series.

(You've seen pics of Angkor Wat, right? Those old Hindu temples in SE Asia? Well, here's a link to the trees that have overtaken the temples. Don't know if these are ficus trees, but they seem similar. ((The banyan trees of India are from the ficus family, and these look like banyans.)) Check out those roots!!!

Harry: RR no longer takes links well---they don't show up half the time! So just go to "google images" and type-in "Angkor Wat Trees". Be sure it's "Images"---then you'll see some amazing examples...)
