Well, my main Photoshop machine finally rolled over and died today... Just one friggin' thing after another... But it's been having a lot of issues lately, so I'm not terribly surprised by this. I'm pretty sure it's just the 'C' drive that's gone south, so I could just throw another drive in it, reload Windows (7) on it, and rebuild from there. But it's a 6 year old machine, and it's had a number of other issues for a while.
The company I bought it from - Velocity PC - has a "Lifetime Upgrade" program where I could send it to them for upgrading. I'll probably call them Monday and see what they have to say. Depending on price, I might just be better off getting a new machine from Microcenter. We'll see..
The 3 other drives that were in this machine have been removed, and are fine - everything on them is intact and backed up - which is good because there are several years' worth of photos on one of them. I learned long ago to have at least 2 backups of anything important.
Anyway, this may slow things down a little bit (as if they aren't slow enough already), but I have Photoshop on one of my laptops, so I'm not dead in the water. And all my T.N.A. assets and Photoshop assets are safe in other drives and on Adobe's cloud.
EDIT: 06-15-19: I sooooooo should have put the word "Jim" under "It's Dead.." 😝
One of these days all this crap is going to stop and I won't know how to act...

My condolences to the death of your computer, but if you have backups, it is not so tragic. From experience, I always do at least 2 backups if my wife also considers me paranoid. By the way,great idea with the photo.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Your stacked with lots of great EQ. But stacked with farking bad issues. Hope the probs fly off soon. Just hope my 64 lasts awhile.
Some God of Trickery (Loki) is sure having a field year with you, Rod (refraining from mentioning the Infinity War saga as I only saw the first one). At least you have backups of your work (something I need to seriously do with mine).
Yikes, THAT is a truly scary sight!! It happens to all of us eventually, (I need to backup need to backup need to backup) I believe that you are due for this "rough patch" to smooth on out soon! Best of luck with the upgrade :)
It served its purpose with diligence. And just as well you planned ahead, I found good old-fashioned data redundancy proved handy when 1 of my HDDs carked it a week after the warranty expired.
Sorry to hear about your computer woes...my 15-year old machine died a few months ago..it was a Gateway and was the best machine I've ever owned or worked on...such is life...for those really irreplaceable items, I suggest putting them on DVDs and storing them in safe places...I never fully trust any storage device. Very smart to back everything up! I keep saying I will and some of my stuff is, but it takes time and discipline.
too bad about more bad news. my desktop is running slow with some hair products. 30 minutes is long for a render, but when it lasts 3 hours, that is too dang long. I recently backed up my runtime, but need to do it again

I'm sure it's the works of Darth Jarjar Binks isn't it? As clumsy as he is, I bet he ran against your System drive and smashed it... At least you have backups (reminds me to renew my (only) backup again...

Six years old is old? My present iMac is 4 years old and still running happily. My G5 is 14 years old and still working (with some new inner parts). And my 1997 PowerMac 7300, which my wfe likes using, is functioning (though its Internet section is rubbish now). Admittedly I have also had hard drives fail (luckily just the external ones). And my only Windows machine (with Windows 2000) which my nephew now has, is still alive. Luck of the draw, I suppose.
Seems a little sketchy to me... A HD platter is read magnetically not optically as far as I'm aware.. Anyway, I have an external HD dock, and was able to access that drive and recover what I wanted from it. The unreadable sectors seem to be in the area Windows uses to boot up. I may run a check on that drive to see if it's just software corruption, but I'm not going to spend a lot of time on it. Drives are cheap... LOL
Sorry to read of the demise of your Windows PC. In contrast, my Photoshop resides in my five-year old Mac mini, an 8"x 8" unit nowhere the size of the colossus shown above. My Mac plus two small exterior hard drives give me all the photos, RAM and Photoshop I need. Incidentally, I have tons of photos, going back to the early to mid 20th century, stored in those units. And, fortunately, no problems as yet from any of that hardware. Anyway, the best of luck with no problems on your future equipment.
Dang! It's Like you fill One Hole and another opens Up! I Went for a 1Tb SSHD Windows 10 , AMD Rizen5 6 core CPU MSI ATX Motherboard 32 gig DDR4 Ram up gradable to 64, Liquid Cooling System 500 Watt Power Supply and New Case to put it in My old one Was Too Small For the Mother Board! the only thing left from my old Computer was the Graphics Card and DVD Burner

Having multiple backups is a very good idea because these machines never give you adequate warning. Hope the replacement isn't too expensive.

They just don't build them the way they used to. Good thing you have backups. It's always the keyboards I blow up.
I like the star trek reference ("it's dead, Jim"). In "The Big Lebowski" Jeff Bridges says, "they finally did it: They killed my f__cking car!" (I gave a link to John Cleese beating his car when it died, and I know there are other appropriate lines for this scene...I remember in "Mash" someone shot a jeep that had passed on...) Man, that's a big computer! And I'm sure you know every inch of it. I hope you find a solution that works for you. I'm amazed you can work with old OS's too. It must be a powerful unit because it has two fans (at least that I can count).
And re your comment that one day all this stress will be over, and you won't know what to do: They say of Chicago (which has tons of wind): "One day the wind stopped, and everyone fell over". Kinda the same idea....Good luck, Rod, I hope this is the final gasp of a long hard road. Maybe your TNA ladies should have a service for this. And thank you for your very kind words to my writing. oh no my your computer rest in pieces my photoshop ended up on a computer that is not my daz studio machine so I'm trying to work around that

C4 and primer cord should solve the problem quickly and, in a sense, a lot of fun. However, comma, you should have enough machines on the standby to cover the work required. Right?
I'll probably attempt to resurrect this on at some point - it has 2 processors, although they're older ones. If I'm able to resurrect it, I'll call it 'Lazarus.' LOL
