Description
These are the seeds of this impressive grass. Once they drop the empty cases persist on the plant till winter.
They fall heavy-end down, obviously, and then seem to be driven into the ground by the long tails which act as corkscrews when damp.
I used to have to make sure that none of the fish choked on them. No longer a worry as my pond is fish free!

Corkscrews, eh? Amazing how nature adapts for survival. And I imagine the tadpoles don't miss the fish.
