Description
This is a Sexton Beetle and I was thrilled to see one for the very first time whilst I was mowing the lawn. The species are tricky to tell apart.
It was running very fast and all I got were 5 unsharp pics, which is why this is so grainy after a digital sharpening and noise removal.

A very handsome fella.
A colorful but camera shy insect. Considering the circumstances this turned out very well.
yeah, with mark, if you mowed near this dude, he got off well! Beautiful bold orange and black creature, and your postwork makes it a print; with fabric quality all around the stalks and the beetle. Perfect centering. And everytime I hear "sexton" I think of a church sexton; and I can't square that with this creature! (He works in a local church? Out for a quick snack?) I love the image.
Superb capture Andrea. God bless.
Superb shot Andrea. The sharpening really adds to the image. fantastic :)
