Description
Oldest masonry building in the State of Georgia
River and Barnard
Savannah, Georgia
Those chunks of rock came from far-flung ports as ballast in the holds of sailing ships. The ships would dump their ballast in Savannah and load up with cotton and sugar, and sail back to ... wherever. Built some time before 1790, this building is now home to the Chart House restaurant.

hodge podge: a confused mixture.
When I saw this building I immediately thought of this definition. The overall appearance is quite attractive.
They built those buildings to last didn't they. Great to see it is still in use. Excellent capture and filter. 😀
Great camera work T!!
Great find and a fine photo!
The ultimate up cycling! A very handsome building.
well, I see the bars, where's the grill? great shot of this lovely building
a fascinating building.
that's some amazing brickwork
Love that old brick.
I like the stonewalls very much. Beautiful capture Tara.
A gorgeous photo, Tara! I need one of those ships to bring me some stones, a few 4 X 8 foot sheets of half-inch plywood, and a load of 2 x 4s.
Quite interesting story about this building
Fabulous shot of this beautiful building. !
fascinating history, and lol Rod (what---he gonna build new computers out of rocks???) (and yeah, if he and i ever got together, ala your comment to me, I'd send out tidal wave warnings...the jokes would fly something fierce...) After the two very genteel and grace-filled facades of your previous two shots, it's great to see this wildly varied facade, and with a big sweeping, endless feeling to it: This feels like a warehouse through and through, and I love the bar and grill signs at the verrrrrry bottom. (Cool cropping.) And that you whited out the other facades in the upper right. A real hodge podge of a facade (Mark), and your treatment brings out the graphic feeling of it. A big in our face architectural capture.
