This shows the courtship of Red-eared Pond Sliders. The smaller male (on the right) is making advances to the larger female (on the left). He attempts to get in front of her and tickle the sides of her face with the back of his outstretched arms. If she is interested, she allows this to occur where upon they dive to the bottom of the pond and mate after a short chase across the bottom. If she is not interested, she simply turns away. The male then attempts to get in front of her again. He may do this dozens of times before she finally agrees or chases him away. He then will go looking for a more agreeable female. This male is young and probably won't be accepted at all this year. The females prefer older mates. Thanks to all who have taken the time to comment on one of my postings. The feedback (negative or positive) is appreciated. I hope everyone who has clicked on one of them was pleased with having done so. Lee
