Elio reminds me of a friend I once had. He had an obsession with used women's undergarments. We joked him hard for that, but he just shrugged it off and said oh 'well'.

I don't know about the homophobia line, too inflammatory, and I think most people have worked past that, or I'm just naive. Now the engagement to a woman, that has high drama in it. He can agonize over where he went wrong as a lover to have pushed him into the arms of a woman. I actually see a scene where he shows up at the wedding and makes a big scene.
