you mention puppy. I have been feeding 3 Chihuahua puppies and their mother for weeks along with another neighbor. all because the owners will not fix the holes in the fence or give food. I have made friends with 2 puppies and their mother. I can pet them, but the boy puppy is too afraid. now my silly big dogs get upset that I am paying attention to the puppies out in the driveway. some times they refuse to eat and the male checks his sleeping place in the garage to see if the puppies went inside. he smelled my 4Runner for the whole length today
