Description
I'm having a great time going through that "not posted because it turned out like crap" file and rescuing a few images that are benefiting from a fresh eye, improved skills, and Topaz filters. Rather than start from the image I didn't like and trying to fix it, I've gone back to the original images and started over. Plus, a lot of those older images were sized at 512kb for Renderosity's old parameters, and that's no longer an issue.
This is from a trip we took to New Orleans, Louisiana, in March, 2014. We were visiting friends in the area, and they were kind enough to drive us into the city so we could take pictures in the French Quarter.
You can also consider this to be a celebration of the New Orleans Saint's victory today over the Panthers, if you care about such things. (American football, for those of you who don't know and/or don't care.) :P
The Topaz filter is Evening Shadow (thanks, Andrea!), with the vignette turned pretty much to zero. It brought out all the detail without being over-contrasted. The underside of that balcony roof was a uniform gray in the other version, and Topaz brought out ALL the detail. Amazing! I shot this in color, but it turned out mono simply because it's black iron work against a white building on a cloudy day. The filter brought out the colorful undertones, which gave this SO much more interest!
This is nicely trippy in full view. Enjoy!

Gosh I love the colours (the rainbow effects in the metal in particular) and surreal look of this. Much like the French Quarter itself. I was last there some seventeen (17) years ago. There is a curious energy to that place which I've never found elsewhere. And there are streetcars!
And lest not forget the "slushy" machines - all the colours of the rainbow.
Trippy is the word for it. VERY cool! And as a bonus, an abstract Picasso-ish face. Between the left plant and the middle plant and just below the railing. Do you see it, with the red lips?
Beautiful save on this one, Tara! definitely a wonderful work of art!
I love what you have created with this capture and Topaz it looks amazing. Great that you had another look at it. 😀
nicely done
Love this outcome. Very delightful :) Unfortunately my Topaz doesnt work anymore. Havent been able to find the free one.. found one, but there were no invironments in it and therefor of no use.
Brilliant result!
I hate the vignetting on most of the filters, it reminds me of 1950's court photographers!
oh wow, this just freakin ROCKS!!! I LOVE the contrasts, the white out, I LOVE everything about it. i'm sure i'd love topaz, but you know how i am trying to learn new stuff!!!
Outstanding work Tara. God bless.
Excellent work on that picture. A lot of souvenirs !
