Description
A good view of the Pennsylvania Monument at Gettysburg. The sharpening killed some detail, but I still recommend a zoom view to get an idea of the size of this (I believe it to be the largest at the military park.) and to pick out some of the carved inscriptions. We will see more views of it, some detail shots of some of the MANY bronze tablets on it, and a few views of the battlefield as seen from the observers' deck. Since we are on the main battlefield, it is relatively flat; the views from this monument really help get an idea of what the terrain is like. Some rolling, but nothing like what we saw at Antietam. This is terrain for a typical European set-piece battle of the Napoleanic Era and earlier (i.e., Brown Besses and similar). Not what you want to deal with when rifled muskets and rifles (some repeating) are the arm of the day.
We will also be in the area a bit to look at some of the many smaller monuments and commemorative displays around.
Currently the Minnesota Monument is just behind us maybe 50 yards away.
Enjoy; thanks for viewing.

fabulous capture! Can't wait to see the other shots around the area
Superb capture. God bless.
A different kind of monument. Are the names of all the filled in battle written on those black plaques? Considering the size, they must be very many soldiers. Keep up the good work. Am looking forward to more photos. :-)
Amazing in zoom, beautiful monument!!
