Description
Several carriages similar to this one are being used for tours around town in Tombstone. I was fascinated with them. When I arrived in the middle of the afternoon here from Willcox on my way to Sierra Vista the gunfight re-enactments were over for the day, but I hung around to absorb the atmosphere. This coach had 'Butterfield Overland Stage' written across its rear. Coaches like this one were used by the Butterfield Company and later by Wells Fargo to haul mail across country. There were several different routes, one of which went from El Paso to San Diego and that route may have come near here. But once the first transcontinental railroad was completed these stage coach lines were no longer used. These stage coach lines operated more than two decades before Tombstone was founded. This particular coach looks genuine.

when my sister went with me to Big Bend and Guadalupe in New Mexico we decided to drive her vehicle. if I had taken the 4Runner, we could have drove on part of the original Butterfield Overland Stage route.
