We saw this cast replica of Ghiberti's "Gates of Paradise" at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City a few weeks ago. It's almost impossible to provide the scale as well as the details, so I've gone (of course) with the detail.
The doors are 17 feet tall and contain ten carved panels, along with several lesser sections.
On the left is the top left-hand panel, which tells the story of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden.
The center image is a detail from a panel showing the walls at Jericho, and shows how deeply and with what detail the panels are carved.
On the right is a panel depicting the Old Testament story of Jacob and Esau. This is one of the earliest examples of perspective in art. Notice the way Ghiberti depicted the floor tiles and the arches.

I loved the elegance, the grandeur, and the rich history of these doors, and they seemed appropriate to Mark's wide-ranging interests.

Wonderful and one of my favourite pieces of art. I am lucky enough to have seen the original in Florence on one of my handful of foriegn visits.
(I just had arm therapy and it hurts like cuh-razy, so i'll see how this comment goes, lol, but it's mark's bday and I gotta say something.) (and I mentioned you in my little upload just now) love this, people gotta zoom, you really caught the detail of these masterpieces, they really shine and have wonderful bronze-y shadows and gold hues. Terrific museum captures Tara! You and bill know how to shoot in museums! And perfect, as you say, for Mark, who is our resident world/cosmos traveler, who brings us all this joy, beauty, mystery and wisdom (and humor) (see his latest...). The Ghibertis are like gatherings of the whole renaissance (as you point out re perspective etc), and that's just right for mark, a renaissance heart and soul. Happy 70th bday mark, and many many more! Love the dedi, tara, and I'm sure he'll love it too!

Looks like Rendo's limited the size that can be displayed in the galleries, now - probably part of the new gallery image sales feature. So I guess I'll just have to go see it in person! LOL I don't have an excuse not to visit the Nelson every so often, now.
Oh, Tara, you know me so well. Who would have guessed that I would have a banquet for my birthday. Stunning work and one for the bucket list. I love how Lorenzo put a bust of himself in the margins of one of the doors. Sort of like Alfred Hitchcock showing up in his movies. Thank you for this. A feast for the eyes.
WHAT? There's a second copy of the doors? The original copy was made from molds of the original doors. The molds were made before WWII in the event the original doors would be destroyed in the war. After the war, Florence needed money for restoration of damaged art so they made a copy of the Ghiberti doors from the molds and offered it to the highest bidder, which turned out to be Grace Cathedral in San Francisco. The molds were then supposedly destroyed so no more copies could be made. So, now I'm wondering, how did the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art get their copy??? I've been through the Grace Cathedral doors many times when serving at special services (ie visit by Archbishop of Canterbury in 1967), and have seen the original in Florence (which were in need of some cleaning!). The gold on the Grace Cathedral doors is clean, making the doors shine when the sun rises in the east! Marvelous creation Keep up the good work! :-)
