Description
I did not take this photo; this is a news photo circulating around Houston that shows the devastating flooding that has slammed Houston, Texas. I used Akvis Sketch to turn the news photo into a drawing. I created this to update my blog on how I'm faring in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey (although, technically it was a tropical storm here), and thought you guys might be interested in the sketch effects I used. This is comprised of three layers:
Blue sky (I just airbrushed some random blue shapes then had Akvis sketch it -- I also enlarged it to give the sky a rougher look; blending = Multiply)
Blue sketch (colorized version of the base: I then used a layer mask to apply the blue only to the water areas; blending = Normal)
Base sketch (maintained original colors)
Honestly, I have no idea if this is copyrighted or not. If so, I apologize. This just isn't the time to sort that out.
BTW: I live in NW Houston, about 100 miles inland. Although I have some roof damage, I have not flooded and am okay (especially since they restored the power).

Looks great & well done! If I see what this storm has done, I am really scared, all these people (even the animals) who have lost their belongings or even their lives, friends of me from Houston and Alvin are safe - God bless!

A spectacular sketch my friend I cant imagine the scope and devastation that has been caused its such at terrible calamity to have fallen on texas! All our prayers are with them at this time!

Good to know you're OK, and without too much damage.
My heart goes out to all those affected by the flooding. I'm still dealing with the effects of a mere 2 inches in my basement from 2 weeks ago - it must be something beyond imagination what the victims of Harvey are dealing with. The images coming out if the area are just heartbreaking.

I am glad that I left Houston back in 82. even back then I often had to drive through flood waters.

Thank you all for the well wishes. The word "Devastating" doesn't really seem enough. Neither does "Catastrophic." There's just so much damage and suffering. As someone whose home has flooded in the past, my heart breaks for these people.
Right now we're just focused on getting back to work and dealing with the repairs that need to be made. I've already filed an insurance claim and have spoken to my first roofer. Lots of work to come, and this from someone who was blessed to get off VERY easy, all things considered.
