Description
Old St. Paul's was built in 1866. It was the Anglican Cathedral of Wellington until 1964. It was designed by architect and parish priest Reverend Frederick Thatcher. The church is built entirely from native timber. It is one of the world's finest examples of a wooden Gothic church.
It was saved by the efforts of the people in the 1960s, Old St. Paul's is one of New Zealand's most special and significant historic places. It was acquired by the government in 1967 and restored for the people of New Zealand.
