Description
A quick GOOGLE of 'steamboat Thomas Hunt' found several interesting links. This one looks promising from several angles: https://www.cardcow.com/18122/ss-thomas-hunt-red-bank-steamboat-co-transportation-boats-ships/ along with http://themonmouthjournal.com/historic-boats-return-to-two-river-area-p2292-1.htm
I'm not sure if this depicts an actual meeting of the two vessels but I'm looking at the flags on Thomas the Tank.... ah Thomas Hunt: those "H"s in the smaller flags' cantons and the commissioning pennant at the stern and on AMERICA's main peak. Not sure how kosher a commissioning pennant is on a commercial boat, but it is very colorful.
The large swallow-tail pennants leave the viewer in no doubt as to the identity of the vessel in view... even to eclipsing the stars n stripes on Hunt. A colorful day is had by all despite the approaching storm and .... JEEZE MAN! watch the bouy! will ya!
Phew! That close shave has been going on for over a century.
PW to lose the frame and tart the colors up a bit, eh?
Enjoy; thanks for viewing.

Great painting but like you, couldn't find anything worthwhile
Nothing really specific, but that photo at the first URL sure looks like the steamer in the painting.
Good capture !!
Thank you!
Very dramatic sea. Lovely pic.
Yes, generic, but it is dramatic. That's the fun of these "primitive" images. You really never know what the artist will turn out.
beautiful
