Nice photo. You got the light / shadow well. This type of sculpture is an art and science unto itself. Too much removed or too little ruins the whole piece. This type was popular in cameos (jewelry worn as a pendant around the neck). My mother had one she often wore when she wanted to feel beautiful. She was very attached to it. Often this was a portrait of someone special to the wearer. Nice of you to take this into your collection and for posting it. I'm curious to see what comments this garners.
Thanks. Yes, this is very cameo-like but it might hurt the wearer. Just, IMO, a great image presented very nicely. Sorry I could not get the inscription to come out better.

It does look like wedding dress of some sort. Not sure if the image is "modern" or Roman in intent.
